one of the benifits of doing this write up over a week later is that I start remembering things I may have missed while “racing”…its all coming back to me now….
Race day came way too early on saturday morning thanks to the night before, and to say I wasn’t feeling 100% would be a bit of an understatement. I decided just to treat it like a big group ride and it is exactly how it went down. Fast guys went to the front and guys that thought they were fast tried to hang on. We paraded down main street Durango and it looked like this, It was impressive seeing 1000 riders rolling down the street and not a single derailer amongst them. Thats enough to bring a tear to a glass eye. as the race hit the dirt i could look up and see the lead moto abot 3 miles away and doing some quick trigonometry told me that they were really far ahead. I didn’t make it too far past the first “feed station” which looked like this:
I would say about 100 people didn’t make it past that point. I took it upon myself to keep all the racers hydrated as they went by and to heckle the douchebags that were taking this way too seriously.
Greg Herbold came through with a vintage tioga disc wheel.
Ned Overend came through in the top 5 wearing a dress…not bad for an 90 year old man
The Real Rob was more than happy to stop and have a drink with me then chase after the little gold number to his left

The after party kicked off over at Ska Brewery. There was a baketball game to decide where next year’s party…i mean race, was going to go down. New Zealand is the place to be. they also put on display all the entry forms for this year’s event. which was a coloring contests
Good times were had by all, with good food, great beers, tattoos were given to the winners, and bands made guys do this.
The guys of the D9 Crew put on one hell of an event. It was a badass time and you should have been there.
In the mean time you can get over to Bump In The Night if you are anywhere near NY.
